Helping you move your content into course format
Have you heard people talk about “The One Thing?” It’s the title of a great book by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan. My one thing is a focus on helping you create a strategy for connecting your customers with your content in the form of a course. Online courses and program strategy are where I focus the majority of my work. I help you make a determination if a course is a right fit for your customers, and if so, what type of course delivery and pacing would best align the solutions your customers are seeking to help solve their pain points.
My name is Vickie Maris, elearning strategist, course designer, speaker, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, musician and farm girl. I am also an avid lifelong learner!
My largest projects to date have been in my career at a Big 10 University where I have been for over 20 years following 11 years in marketing and communications roles in the agricultural industry. More than 14 years of my time in higher education has been in the design, development and marketing of lifelong learning for people who are post graduation. I had the honor of building and leading an award-winning team in Engineering Professional Education that created two, separate series of courses in the topics of Lean Six Sigma and Project Management.
To see an example of one of the award-winning lecture videos from the Project Management Essentials course that you can take online through Purdue, click this YouTube link. This video, and the way it is housed in YouTube, demonstrates a method that you and your video editor can use for providing Round 1 versions of edited videos for your team to review prior to uploading in a course for production.
It was my joy to recruit and work alongside several contracted content experts and consultants who brought our courses to life and shared real-world, on-the-ground experiences with our students.
The Lean Six Sigma program was generating over $2.3 million in revenue at the time I moved to a different position in the university as director of graduate programs in biomedical engineering. I’m excited to help you develop a similar or even higher level of success in revenue generation by helping you create courses that hit the mark for your students in quality of content that solves pain points, and that meets customer needs in the areas of content delivery, pacing, engagement and more.
I’m so crazy passionate about lifelong learning and professional development that I’m continuously taking a course, attending a workshop or networking at a conference. In fact, I went back to school for a graduate degree in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Purdue, 17 years after I had completed my BS degree in agricultural communications. Many of my interests in building great elearning experiences stem from my life as a graduate student who was working full time while taking classes part time.

If you’re just getting started with creating an online course (or maybe you’d like to create a video for your “About” page), and would like to take the DIY approach using hardware and software you already have, then you might like to check out my course in Udemy, Learn a Simple Approach to Creating an Online Video Course. If you attend an event where I’m speaking, I do hope you’ll find me afterwards and say hello.
